None of these oceans are free from occasions of struggle, moments where we can feel stuck, adrift, overwhelmed – these are the signs of ghosts in our own lives.
Moments hinting at new horizons and deep change, if only there was a beacon to help us find our way.
Our lives gather meaning in moments, much as oceans gather depth in drops. At some point in the arc of our lives, we may become aware of how many moments there have been, and of the great weight and depth of these oceans of experiences.
Oceans that swirl with occasions of struggle, moments of feeling stuck, adrift, overwhelmed – punctuated by the haunted shipwrecks, the ghosts in our own lives. These haunting can often hint at new horizons and deep change, if only there was a beacon to help us find our way.
Perhaps your moment is struggle with a major life transition, such as ending a career, becoming a parent, or becoming aware of transition into midlife and all that comes with it. Or the world has lost its color, and while you don’t feel absent, you’re not all here either.
Or you are dealing with career dissatisfaction, burnout, or professional and creative depletion.
Or you have experienced trauma in your life, either recently or somewhere in your past, and are attempting to move through what seems like an unsafe world and “attacks of the past”.
Perhaps your relationship is at a crossroads involving marriage, wanting to start a family, aging together, infidelity, lack of passion and sexual fulfillment, or feeling stuck in a cycle of conflict, blame, and gradual disconnection.
As a clinical psychologist, I feel called and committed to helping individuals and couples navigate these waters. My approach is to honor all the aspects of a person or relationship using relational, psychoanalytic, Jungian analytical, and somatic-mindfulness modalities. Everything about you and your experience is part of the process of therapy – aspects of our therapeutic experience together, of yourself in your life, your thoughts and feelings, dreams, symbols, and fascinations of your inner world, and the physical sensations and patterns in your body. Often all of these are trying to communicate something vital to you.
By helping you gain awareness of all these, you may come to know yourself in a deeper, richer way that allows you to be more of who you really are across the contexts of your life. To help you weave the fragments into something that feels whole and meaningful.
